Missouri #1
Missouri Valley Wine Country

State U.S. 61 to Herman is a trip through the heart of Missouri wine country west of St. Louis. The drive begins at the August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area, which offers more than 16,000 acres of fishing, hiking, biking and hunting. Head west on Rte. 94 toward Defiance. A five-mile departure on Rte. F will take you to the Daniel Boone House. Returning to Rte. 94, you will see the 200-mile KATY Trail for biking and hiking. Enter wine country west of Defiance.

Many wineries are along this strip, and all offer tours and tastings. The world's only corncob-pipe factory is four miles south of Dutzow, in the town of Washington. The town also has restaurants, B&Bs, and shops. West of Dutzow is the Daniel Boone Grave and Monument. Three miles past Treloar is the St. Johns of Pinckney United Church of Christ and cemetery. Cross the Missouri River into the town of Hermann. German immigrants, who wanted to preserve their language and heritage, founded the town in 1837. Hermann is full of German architecture, B&Bs, museums and wineries. The Stone Hill and Hermannhof wineries date back to the mid-1800s. The Historic Hermann Museum features area shipbuilding, winemaking and early furniture.
